Decodo review (2026): premium-grade test results without premium minimums

The former Smartproxy posted the fastest average response in Proxyway’s April 2026 round. You pay three to four times the budget rates for it, and traffic expires.

Prices verified 17 Oct 2026

Decodo is what Smartproxy has been called since April 20251. On the evidence available it is the best-performing residential network you can buy by the gigabyte: 99.92% success and a 0.53 s average response in Proxyway’s April 2026 tests2.

That makes it our pick for the best performance below enterprise pricing. The price is the obvious catch. Less obvious are the expiry rules, which punish occasional buyers.

Our verdict

Premium-tier measured performance without the premium-tier minimums.

Best for

  • Best measured speed and reliability below enterprise pricing
  • Long sticky sessions (up to 24 hours) with city, ZIP and ASN targeting
  • Starting small: 1 GB pay-as-you-go or a 3-day trial

Skip if

  • Price per GB is your main criterion — it costs 3–4× PacketStream or Evomi
  • You buy irregularly and want traffic that never expires

Our pick for: best performance below enterprise pricing. Runner-up for: testing on a small budget; long sticky sessions on traffic that never expires; largest measured pool for steady high-volume work. Picks are by use case, not a ranking.

Pay-as-you-go versus plans

Pay-as-you-go costs $4.00 per GB, bought one gigabyte at a time — exactly the market median entry price in Proxyway’s 2026 research3,4. Monthly plans step down from $3.75/GB (3 GB) to $2.75/GB (100 GB), and Enterprise plans run from $2.50/GB at 250 GB to $2.00/GB at 1 TB3. At 100 GB a month that is $275, against $49 on Evomi’s Core plan, $100 at PacketStream and $200 at Rayobyte5,6,7.

Expiry is the hidden cost

Subscription traffic doesn’t roll over, and pay-as-you-go traffic lasts 12 months. If your usage is lumpy, a plan sized for your busy months wastes money in quiet ones. Proxyway also notes that wallet balances are non-refundable2, and the formal refund policy covers only your first purchase, within 14 days, if you’ve used under 20% of a regular plan’s traffic3.

The 3-day, 100 MB trial is small but real3: enough to check that your targets load, not to measure success rates at scale.

Targeting, protocols and sessions

Targeting
Continent, country, state, city, ZIP and ASN3
Protocols
HTTP(S) and SOCKS53
Sticky sessions
Custom duration from 1 to 1,440 minutes (24 hours)8

Decodo has a full targeting menu — continent, country, state, city, ZIP and ASN — over HTTP(S) or SOCKS53. Sticky sessions take any whole number of minutes from 1 to 1,440, so you can hold an IP for up to 24 hours8. (The pricing page mentions sessions of “up to 30 min”, apparently as a default; the session documentation is explicit about the 24-hour maximum.)

For most scraping and monitoring work that’s the complete set. The gaps are at the extremes: carrier-level targeting (Bright Data) and sessions longer than a day (IPRoyal).

Sourcing, KYC and trust

Independent performance evidence

Latest third-party test: Proxyway, April 2026

In Proxyway’s April 2026 round Decodo’s global gateway succeeded 99.92% of the time with a 0.53 s average response for a 6 KB page, and returned 2,853,543 unique IPs from 3.6 million requests over 21 days2.

The 0.53 s average was the fastest of the seven providers here that Proxyway tested in that round; Oxylabs came closest at 0.60 s with 99.93% success9. Evomi’s Core pool, tested separately in July 2026, scored 99.91% at 0.70 s10 — similar reliability at a quarter of the price, on roughly half as many unique IPs.

These figures come from Proxyway’s infrastructure test against a small page, not from hard targets. They tell you the network is fast and stable; they don’t tell you how it fares against a particular anti-bot system.

Third-party figures are snapshots from the stated date, on the tester’s targets and setup; see our methodology for how we use each source.

Who should pick Decodo — and who shouldn’t

Pick it if

  • Speed and reliability matter more than the per-GB price.
  • You need state, ZIP or ASN targeting with sessions of up to 24 hours.
  • You want to start without an ID check and with a single gigabyte.
  • Your monthly volume is steady enough that plan traffic won’t go to waste.

Skip it if

  • Price per GB is the deciding factor — Evomi and PacketStream cost a quarter as much.
  • You buy occasionally and want traffic that never expires; IPRoyal, PacketStream and Evomi’s pay-as-you-go don’t expire.

Alternatives to Decodo

  • Oxylabs review — a larger measured pool and similar results, subscription only.
  • Evomi review — a similar July 2026 success rate at about a quarter of the price, on a smaller pool.
  • SOAX review — comparable April 2026 results with country-tier pricing.
